In case you have never encountered high definition before, here is a brief overview

High definition is a term used to describe a screen, or video, that is a higher resolution than standard definition.

A higher resolution basically means, a greater number of 'dots' on the screen. Meaning much greater detail. Compare the image below, in standard and high definition:

By looking at the pictures, you can see that the high definition image is in much greater detail. There are other improvements by upgrading to high definition too, including an increased sound quality. There are various ways to upgrade to high definition, but first you will make sure that your television is HD ready, and you have a high definition input device.
